In conjunction with the release of “Eames: The Architect and the Painter,” a documentary that illustrates the work and lives of Charles and Ray Eames, we created a companion site connecting the Eames’ legacy and Herman Miller’s design heritage.

The site features a visual timeline that pulls out the major collaborations between the Eames and Herman Miller and the furniture icons they created together. By sharing content uncovered from the Herman Miller archives, our site invites users to take a closer look inside the work of the Eameses.

Historical images, videos and anecdotal quotes are sprinkled throughout the timeline. Users can scroll through the timeline or jump to specific time periods by clicking on the Eames’ signature icons. You’ve probably sat in an Eames chair before and haven’t realized it, like an Eames Molded Plywood chair or Eames Tandem Seating at the airport.

Users have a chance to win the classic Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman – seen everywhere from Frasier to Tron – by signing up for the giveaway.

We’re pleased to launch Herman Miller’s online store, the brand’s first direct-to-consumer e-commerce site. In order to give consumers the best possible shopping experience, we created an e-commerce strategy that allows people to directly interact with the Herman Miller brand while shopping.

Along with the product configuration tools customers can play with, users are given the widest range of product options available. The Shop by Room section allows consumers to visualize how Herman Miller products fit into their individual lifestyles, providing product options for a living room, dining room, or office space. For design inspiration, you can visit the Shop by Designer section for all products by the Eames, Nelson, Noguchi or Béhar. We also collaborated with architectural photographer Juergen Nogai, who was Julius Shulman’s partner, in directing a photo shoot of the furniture in inspiring spaces.

Integrated with the overall Herman Miller web experience, the online store is visually driven, giving window-shopping a whole new meaning.

On top of that, the person who gets the most people to enter the contest also wins the iconic office chair, the Aeron. We concepted and created the contest to engage people to celebrate great design. The prizes get better each week, including the Yves Béhar Leaf Light, Embody Chair, or an original Eames molded plywood splint.

Hello’s collaboration with Herman Miller featured in HOW’s “My Best Work” column.

In every issue of HOW, the magazine features a noted designer to ask one question: “What is your best, favorite, or most memorable design project?” For this month’s issue, our CEO/Creative Director, David Lai, answered with, “Herman Miller.”

Hello has worked with Herman Miller for a few years now, and we’ve always valued our relationship with them and our shared philosophy on the power of good design. We admire Herman Miller for their thoughtfulness in approach in making things human, and love hearing all the stories they have to share.

It also means we have firsthand experience with the pitfalls of poor ergonomics, which is why we were so happy to help Herman Miller launch their new Thrive portfolio of ergonomic solutions. The Thrive products are the result of over 35 years of ergonomic research designed to promote health and create a better work environment.

We were especially intrigued with Monitor Support products. Imagine how productive I’d be with eight screens. It’d be like “mega-desk” from The Office.
