Friends of Hello at the A+D Museum in Los Angeles recently installed “Eames Words,” an exhibition where the ideas of Charles and Ray Eames triumph their better-known creations.

Part of the Getty Foundation’s Pacific Standard Time, the show pays homage to the design duo’s appreciation of humble objects through an “informal assemblage” of quotes, phrases and actual items, like the Jeep.

Much of the inspiration behind the couple’s designs came from the everyday, which is no better represented in Charles’ timeless phrase, “The uncommon beauty of common things.” The Eameses taught us to celebrate life’s simple pleasures and that design only further enhances this philosophy.

We’re excited to see the work of two of our clients, Herman Miller and the LACMA, come together at the California Design, 1930–1965: “Living in a Modern Way” exhibition. The exhibition is the first major study on California mid-century modern design that includes a relocated Eames House Living Room that brings over 425 pieces designed by Charles and Ray Eames to life. The exhibition is a treasure trove of seminal design masterpieces with an entire display of every style Eames chair from 1939 to 1998. Watch a video on how they packed up all the Eames designs here.

The exhibition is open now until March 25^th and is a must-see for all mid-century modern design lovers.

We’ve worked with the Broad Foundation in creating the online destinations for their many programs, including the Broad Art Foundation who just unveiled the designs for their upcoming contemporary art museum “The Broad.” Designed by architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the museum’s honeycomb “veil” exterior and top floor sky-lit gallery will house some of the greatest works in modern art with collections by a few of our favorite artists like Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein. We’re looking forward to paying a visit to the museum in downtown LA upon completion in 2012.

For the grand prize giveaway, we collaborated with some of our favorite artists – Josh Cochran, Philip Lumbang, Mark Giglio, Chris Lee, and Andrew Holder to hand-paint five Eames rockers to bring to life “For a Better World Around You.” And thanks to Mnemonic Sounds for providing the music to these videos.

Not your typical graffiti, you might have noticed graffiti animals on the streets of LA, cute enough to make the biggest road ragers smile. As Shepard Fairey’s former assistant at Obey Giant’s Studio Number One, Philip Lumbang’s bears, coined awesome bears, are his signature style. We came upon this original plywood splint at the Herman Miller LA Showroom. Charles and Ray Eames designed the splint for the U.S. Navy during WWII, which led them to perfect the technique for molding plywood that resulted in their signature Eames plywood chairs. The splints are now limited collectibles that are displayed as works of art.

David and Hiro flew off to New York for the opening of MoMA’s Bauhaus: Workshops for Modernity exhibition. Hello created a web site along with a kiosk experience for the show.

The Bauhaus holds special meaning for us as designers and we appreciated the work even more after experiencing them in person.

We just launched a new site today for The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts in NYC. The foundation was established in 1987 to fulfill Warhol’s will which was summed up in “the advancement of the visual arts.” Today they are a leading national funder of contemporary art with initiatives all across the United States.

Jon drew some pretty pictures in our conference room. They’re pink and orange because these were the only paint markers we could find at the store.
